This program will create a bridge between being injured and full recovery by transforming fear into curiosity, creating an atmosphere of support, exploration, and de-mystification. Enrollment is limited to 15 students to assure mentoring and
personal guidance, treating the whole dancer, and not just the injury.

Tuition includes an individual consultation with orthopedic surgeon Richard Gellman, MD, who will supervise attendees participating in the course; lectures by experts on Nutrition, Psychology of Injury, Physical Therapy techniques, alternative management options such as acupuncture and massage, meditation; two group-planned and prepared meals, as well as daily healthy snacks.
Lavinia Magliocco trained at School of American Ballet and North Carolina School of the Arts. A diagnosis of Crohn_s Disease and inflammatory arthritis at age 18 halted her career as a dancer. After graduating college, invasive abdominal surgery, and a 7 year hiatus from dancing, she began studying Pilates. Within three years, she was back on stage, dancing with Cincinnati Ballet, New York's Metropolitan Opera Ballet, and appearing as a Principal Guest Artist with various companies throughout the East and Midwest. She taught ballet at Oregon Ballet Theatre School from 1998-2005, and has been teaching Pilates and Ballet since 1990.
Richard Gellman, MD, is an orthopedic surgeon with Portland Orthopedic Specialists, and a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Orthopedics at the Oregon Health and Sciences University. He was a semi-professional ballet dancer for 3 years between medical school and residency, training with Yehuda Mehor and richard Gibson in San Francisco. Following residency, he completed a 1 year fellowship in Orthopedic Foot and Ankle Surgery where he was consulting orthopedist for North Carolina Dance Theatre. He is a member of the International Association of Dance Medicine and Science and has published original articles on electromyography of dance movements.
Injured Dancer Intensive 2006
Two, 2-week sessions are offered:
Session One begins Monday, June 19 , ending Saturday, July 1.
Session Two begins Monday August 7 , ending Saturday August 19.
Saturdays are half days, ending at 12n. Sunday is a free day to rest and explore Portland and its environs.
Tuition is $675.00 pp/week or $1,250.00 USD per person for each two-week course. For each two-week session, there is the option of participating for the first week only.
Room and board rate with private hosts is $1,600.00 per person.
